MORTUARY RECORD

John A. Robinson.

The funeral of our old and respected townsman, John A. Robinson, was held at the M.E. church Friday at 2 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. C.E. Perkins. One of the divisions of the discourse refuted the idea of the ancient Jews that painful afflictions (Mr. Robinson died of concer(err)) were a sign of divine displeasure saying that some of the purest and noblest souls he had ever known had suffered affliction throughout their lives. The church was comfortably filled as a tribute of respect to Mr. Bobinson's(Robinson's) high character and worth. The mourners were Mr. J.B. Robinson and little son of Woodward, O.T., Miss Nellie Robinson of this place, and sitting with them was Mr. Albert Hartrick of Farmington, Mr. J.B. Robinson's brother-in-law. Sitting next to the mourners were Mrs. Dr. Bailey of Vernon and Mrs. W.A. Lippincott. The former, out of friendship for Miss Robinson, came here several weeks ago and tenderly cared for Mr. Robinson till his death, an act of personal sacrifice and kindness that must, with many other kindnesses, stand forever to this good lady's credit.

John Anderson Robinson was born at Chestcheisier Co., Penn., June 4, 1831. He was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Smith at Keosauqua in 1855. The latter, who is recalled as a refined and estimable lady, died at this place in 1891. The surviving members of the family are J.B. Robinson and Miss Nellie Robinson, the latter a teacher in our public school.

Mr. Robinson was a blacksmith and wagon maker, and conducted a business here a great many years. He was once or twice a prominent candidate for the nomination for sheriff on the republican ticket. He was a man of strictest integrity and a faithful Christian, Socially he was friendly and kindly, and an affectionate husband and father.
