(Death) of William H. Moore

William Henry Moore was born at Zanesville, Ohio, Sept. 14, 1833, and died at the home of his daughter Mrs. J.H. Wiley in Mt. Zion, Iowa, July 7th, 1910, after a long illness with a complication of diseases, ending in paralysis.

The following sketch of deceased was written by himself, and found among his effects after his death:

I was born near Zanesville, Ohio, on Sept. 14th, 1833. Lived on a farm until I was 24 years old, when I was married to Philena E. Anderson on the 21st of April 1858, and about the 1st of September, 1859, we stated for Iowa with her father, mother and the family, being eleven of us and came through with teams, and landed in Birmingham some time in October and went to our farm 3 miles north of Birmingham, on a farm now called the Chatterton farm. In March 1861, I went back to Ohio and got a team and wagon and drvoe through. Was very much exposed from bad and rainy weather, from which I was very poorly, and in the fall of 1861 took a bad spell of typhoid fever. In the fall of 1864 I moved to Iowa Co., lived there about thirteen years, and in the spring of 1877 moved back to Van Buren county and on a farm now owned by Billy Burden, and in 1897 I traded farms with Billy Burden, and moved to the farm east of Birmingham 3 miles, and from there moved to a little farm north and lived there one year. From there I moved to Birmingham in the spring of 1903, where my dear wife died. I was converted and joined the church about 1849 under the pastorate of a very strong and good man by the name of Mickel. I have been trying to live a Christian life ever since.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. J.P. Cummins, from the Birmingham M.E. church, Friday, July 29, and the remains laid to rest in the Birmingham cemetery.
