Mr. John McKey.

Mr. John McKey was born April 4, 1829, and after having lived the allotted three score years and ten was transferred almost instantly to that brighter and better world - Heaven - April 26, 1899.

Father McKey was born in Harrison county, Ohio. When a young man his parents settled near West Point, Lee county, near where the greater part of his life was spent.

Nov. 1, 1853, he led to the marriage altar, Miss Elizabeth Schenck who died Aug. 10, 1884. To this union were born seven children, five of whom still remain to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate father - Mrs. Florence South of Kansas, Mrs. Alice Finger, Mr. Augustus McKey, Mrs. Lydia Anders and Mrs. Mary Bales of this county.

In 1887 Mr. McKey united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, which faith he cherished the remainder of his life.

The affliction from which Mr. McKey had suffered for a number of years was of a catarrhal nature, inflicting almost unbearable pain. The day of his death he had appeared to be better than was usual for him and had eaten a rather hearty supper and died before leaving the table.

Words are but feeble in praise of his life. He was God fearing and law abiding. Always kind and considerate in all his dealing with his fellow men, loving and affectionate in his family and led throughout his entire life an exemplary, Christian life, one well worthy of imitation.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilkin of Birmingham and he was buried at Clay Grove, Lee county, Iowa, Friday, April 28, 1899.
