DEATH OF WILLIAM MATHIES.

Mr. William Mathies, a Van Buren county pioneer, died at Springfield, Mo., June 10. Mr. Mathies was a brother of James Mathies of this township. He was born in Harrison county, Ohio, and came to this county with his parents in 1840, he being at that time a lad of 14. The Mathies, Reams, Morts, Renekers, Christys, and Trites all came from the same place in Ohio, Rumley, Harrison county. General Custer was born and raised at the same place, and Edwin M. Stanton was well known there because of being a resident of Cadiz, the county seat, and always being at Rumley at the annual musters of the militia. William Mathies had been a resident of Springfield about 20 years. He was 82 years of age.
