JAMES ROBERT MOORE

James Robert Moore was born in Fairfax county, Va., March 6, 1825, and resided there until 12 years of age when he removed with his parents to Jackson county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Chloe Emeline Burdick in Gallia county, Ohio, on the 12th of April, 1848, and removed to Van Buren county, Iowa in March, 1850.

Mr. Moore was a carpenter and joined by trade. He settled on a farm in Village township in 1851 where he resided until 1880, when removed to Leando, which place he made his home until his death, which occurred on the 18th day of March, 1909.

He leaves an aged companion and two children to mourn his loss. He was an upright citizen and life long republican and an inveterate foe of intemperance. He will be sadly missed in the community, but we realize

Thou art gone to the grave.
But we will not deplore thee,
Whose God was thy ransom
Thy guardian and guide;
He gave thee, He took thee,
And He will restore thee,
And death has no sting,
For the Savior has died.

The funeral was held at the residence March 20, Rev. Grubbs officiating, and the body was laid to rest in the Leando cemetery.
