OBITUARY RECORD.
Death of Ex-Recorder Kittle - Sketch of Mrs. Carrie Day Lewis - Mrs. Patience Taylor.

Mr. Daniel K. Kittle, ex-county recorder, and one of the best known citizens of the county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. Wilkins, at this place Friday evening last, Feb. 24, after quite a long illness of quick consumption.

Mr. Kittle was born in Hamilton county, Ohio, Aug. 2, 1826. In 1829 his parents moved to Dearborn county and 10 years later to Knox. His father dying in 1841, and the subject of this sketch having been attacked with a fever sore at the age of 15, he went back to Dearborn county to live with an uncle and attend school for the purpose of becoming a teacher. He taught his first school in 1845. In 1854 he came to Iowaville, and continued teaching up to 1872, when he was nominated and elected county recorder. He served in this office 16 years being elected eight times, which is a longer term of service than any other county officer ever had. He was also deputy treasurer one term. He also kept the Shepherd Home at this place a number of years. He was a competent, painstaking, affable official, and was esteemed and respected by all who knew him.

In 1854, Mr. Kittle married Miss Lovina McCullough, of this county, who died about two years ago. They had five children living: Mrs. Dora Hart of Billings, Mont., Mrs. Wilkin, Mrs. Stidger, and Roger and George of this place. Mr. and Mrs. Kittle were members of the M.E. church, and were faithful and devoted Christians to the end.

The funeral was from the Christian church at 2 o'clock Sunday, the service by Rev. R.L. Patterson of the M.E. church, assisted by Elder Hendrickson.
