FARMINGTON MAN CRUELLY MURDERED
John Hassman Shot Four Times and Killed last Week at Davenport.

Thursday last John Hassman formerly of Farmington, was shot and killed at Davenport. Particulars of the affair are rather meager, but it seems that Hassman was running a barber shop at Davenport and some time Thursday forenoon a man named Cochran called Hassman out and struck him. Hassman seized a stone the man ran around the other way. When they met the man shot Hassman three times, one ball striking him above the heart, one in the abdomen and one in the thigh. Hassman died about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, John Hassman was about 50 years of age, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hassman was about 50 years of age, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hassman of Farmington, where he also has a brother and sister. He had been a resident of Davenport many years, where he owned a nice residence property. Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Boyer of Farmington, the former being a brother of mrs. Hassman departed for Davenport Saturday and the funeral "as to be held there Sunday. Mrs. Margaret Boyer, Mrs. Hassman's mother, was already at Davenport." It is not known at Farmington what the cause of the trouble was between the two men, unless it grew out of Hassman's opposition to the student barbers of Davenport, who were cutting prices. The murderer endeavored to escape but was overtaken and arrested.
