MISS MAE HINKLE.

Selma, Apr. 19. - Last Friday night April 14, in the Presbyterian Hospital in New York city, Miss Mae Hinkle passed away. her brother Arthur being with her when the end came.

Her illness, which was only of a week's duration was of a most acute character from the start, most acute and all medicinal science and skill could do was of no avail.

The sad news of her death came as a great blow and shock to this entire community where she was born and spent her early childhood, as well as to her many friends in New York and elsewhere. Since her college days at Oberlin, Ohio, she was been living in New York City engaged in library work in which she attained a very marked degree of success. She was happiest when surrounded by an atmosphere that furnished a field for her mental activities and her ambitions often directed her far beyond her powers of physical endurance. Her passing leaves many relatives and friends deeply bereaved.

In the immediate family she is survived by one sister, Miss Lora Hinkle, and two brothers Arthur and Harry. The latter, who lived in Mexico, was unable to reach here.

On Saturday afternoon, before leaving New York, a short service was held for her New York friends in St. Agnes Chapel, which had been beautifully decorated for Easter. The Episcopal rector, Rev. Hengen, assisted by Mr. Swirles (who sang,)
of Ottumwa conducted the final services which were held from the old family home at Selma Tuesday afternoon, April 18th, and interment was in the Iowaville cemetery where her father and mother, one sister and little brother are buried.

The out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Guy Adams and daughter of Chicago, Mrs. Mattie Farren Brown of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Taylor, Mr. W.J. Steckel, Miss Edith Steckel, Mrs. Edgar Johnson of Bloomfield, Iowa; Mr. McNett of Ottumwa; Mrs. M.R. Hinkle and Miss Keo Jordan of Hutchison, Kansas.
