A FATAL LOCKJAW CASE.
Nine Year Old Lad Ran a Nail Into His Foot and Died.

James Ren, the nine year old son of James and Luda Gilchrist, living seven miles northeast of Keosauqua, died at 9 oclock Friday morning from lockjaw. About a week befere(sp) he began going barefooted, and in some way ran a nail or some foreign substance into one of his feet. A few days afterward his foot began to pain him and he was brought in to Dr. Sherman. He did not seem to improve and Thursday he was again brought in. Thursday evening Dr. Sherman and also Dr. Cresap of Bonaparte were called. The child's jaw set during the night, and all that medical skill could do was done, till death ended his sufferings at 9 oclock Friday morning. Dr. Cresap had serum for lockjaw with which he has saved several patients, but in this case it proved unavailing.
