DEATH OF WM. CRUM VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR
Had Lived Near Birmingham 70 Years - Large Funeral - Pall Bearers

Wm. Crum, an old and respected citizen and a veteran of the civil war, passed away Sunday morning Jan. 26, and was buried Monday at 2 o'clock p.m. Mr. Crum was over 70 years of age, and was born near Birmingham and had lived in that one locality his entire life, excepting while in the army. He joined the army in 1862 and remained in the service to the close of the war, being mustered out after the grand review in the city of Washington. He had the record of being a good soldier, as well as being a good citizen, a good neighbor and a faithful friend.

He was united in marriage to Mrs. Lettie Prewett in 1867, to which union four children were born, Mrs. Dr. Jay Norris, Maggie, Thos. and Ed. Crum, all of which were with him to the last. The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church by Rev. Scalf of the Free Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Cassett. The pall bearers, who were all old soldier friends, were C.L. Sheward, N.L. Calhoun, Porter Pleasant, C.J. Troette, Jas. Seers, and D.K. Calhoun. In making up pall bearers it developed that there can now be found but 7 old veterans in that vicinity who are sufficiently strong to act as such, while but a few years ago, there were over 60. Thus they are going and Comrade Crum is one more who has answered the last roll call.

A large congregation of his old neighbors and friends paid their last tribute to his memory.
