BOY KILLED BY LIGHTNING.
Correspondence of Democrat.
Bonaparte, July 24. - Glen Bedford, a little boy 13 years old residing with Mr. and Mrs. Amos Decker on a farm known as the Sam Pipe farm in Harrisburg township, was struck by lightning and died shortly afterward, Thursday afternoon, July 16. They had been threshing at said place when the storm came up and had gone to the barn for shelter when the bolt came in the south door where there were a number of men and teams. There were four men who were stunned, namely, Ed. Decker and son Albert, F.M. McCabe and M.H. Campbell, also a mule and horse knocked down. The barn was struck again on the north end a few minutes later knocking some shingles and weather boarding loose. The little boy came from the Orphans' Home at Ottumwa this spring to live with Mr. and Mrs. Decker. Funeral services were conducted at the home the following day at 5 p.m., by Rev. U.B. Smith, superintendent of the Home. Burial at Vale cemetery. This was a severe shock to this community.
