MRS. WILLIAM F. BARRETT

Mrs. Jane Barrett, for the past 18 years a resident of Bentonsport, passed away Tuesday morning after weeks' of intense suffering from heart disease, at the age of 67 years.

During the 40 years companionship of her husband, Wm. F. Barrett, the village blacksmith, she proved a devoted, helpful companion. She was a famous cook and ably assisted her husband in the making of the home and the support of the family. She catered to the public who in turn would make this point in order to feast on the good things prepared as only she knew how to prepare them, and only ceased when illness prevented. She was a good neighbor, a faithful friend. She united with the M.E. church at this place during the pastorate of Rev. R. Weese, and until her final illness assisting the poor and needy, visiting the sick and afflicted, quietly living the life of a consistent Christian to the best of her ability.

The funeral was held from the Vernon M.E. church Thursday p.m., Rev. Geo. Wehn, the pastor, officiating in a worthy tribute to the deceased from the text, "Be Ye Therefore Ready."

During Mrs. Barrett's last illness though a severe sufferer her mind was ever turned toward Him who has said, "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give your rest." Her loving admonition to her daughters and to the absent children and grand children whom she was not permitted to see were messages of faith, entreating them to put their trust in God, the giver of all good and precious gifts.

In accordance with her request her favorite hymns, "Nearer My God To Thee," "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "There'll be No Dark Valley" and " No, Not One," were sung, with interment in the Vernon cemetery. A profusion of beautiful flowers, tributes of love, reposed on the casket.

She is survived by her husband, one brother, four daughters, namely: Mrs. Fannie Frye of Utah, Nellie of Kansas City, Emma of Keokuk and Mrs. Louise Stevens of Woodstock, Ill. the two latter being with her, nursing and administering to her with the greatest love and devotion, during her last illness, but without avail and the summons found her ready. One son, Marion of Deadwood, S.D., with four grand children mourn the loss of a devoted mother.
