WEEK OF ACCIDENTS
---------
TWO GOOD CITIZENS LOSE THEIR LIVES
---------
ONE MANGLED IN SAW-MILL
---------
The Other Fatally Scalded By Defective Steam Boiler - Both Estimable Gentleman

Last Thursday p.m. about 5 o'clock Mr. Asa J. Blanchard met a serious and fatal accident. He was assisting at the Criol saw-mill northeast of Milton, near the home of Scott Bonar. He was off-baring and tripping on a snag he fell in front of the saw. One leg was sawed from the body, the other had the inside sawed off. one arm at the wrist was nearly sawed off besides several other cuts and bruises. His son William and Mr. Criol were present. They did all they could to stop the blood and took him to his son-in-law's home where he died at 1:30 a.m. that night. Dr. Dorsey of Keokuk had been summoned, but death occurred before anything could be done. The funeral was held at the Milton Christian church conducted by Eld. P.D. Holloway and he was buried in the Milton cemetery. Mr. Blanchard was 58 years of age and the oldest child of W.F. Blanchard. He leaves his father, two brothers, both of Milton, and one sister of Boston, Mass., and many other relatives to mourn his loss.

He was married about 1878 to Lizzie McIntyre and had four children three daughters and one son, Mrs. Ingersoll of Promise City and Mrs. Rinabarger and William, both of Milton. A.J. Blanchard was a highly esteemed citizen and the condition of his death, excited the sympathy of all for his wife and family.

This is one of the saddest accidents that has ever occurred in that part of the county. The grief stricken family have the sympathy of all in their hour of bereavement.
