DEATH OF LEM ALLEN AT RENO, NEV., OCT 24

Hon. Lemuel Allen, at one time a resident of Chequest township, this county, died at a hospital at Reno, Nevada, Oct. 28, 1918, after having undergone an operation for intestinal troubles. He will be remembered by many of the older settlers of the county. He left the county in 1862, but since going west he had been back to Van Buren county on visits, and has relatives in the county, among them the Hootman family at Mt. Zion. He was 79 years of age.

Since going to Nevada Mr. Allen has been very prominent in the affairs of that state, and was know as "the grand old man of the democratic party in Nevada." He had served nine terms in the Nevada legislature, and was elected lieutenant-governor of the state in 1902, serving four years.

The body was buried at Fallon, Nevada, Oct. 17.
