Zeruah Cooley Casady.

Zeruah Cooley Casady, daughter of Andrew and Iolia Reed, was born in Cantril, Iowa, May 16, 1874 and spent the greater part of her life in Cantril and vicinity. She was married March 12, 1889, at Keosauqua, Iowa, to Ora M. Casady, who preceded her in death February 18, 1932. To this union no children were born, but into their home was taken Selman Daugherity at the age of 10, who was reared as their own son.

Mrs. Casady is survived by two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Agnes I. Blaine of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Shirley Baker of Cantril; Dr. G.E. Reed of Long Beach, California; John M. Reed of Cincinnati, Iowa; Robert C. Reed, Queens Village, New York and one foster-son, Selma Daugherity, also a number of nieces and nephews and one grandchild, Jane Ann Daugherity. She was preceded in death by her father in 1917 and her mother on April 14, 1938.

She was converted early in life and was baptized in the Presbyterian church in Bentonsport, later transferring her membership to the Congregational church, where she was an active leader in the choir and young people's organizations. She was a member of the local chapter of Order of Eastern Star and was an officer until failing health would not permit her to carry on her duties. She was afflicted some five years ago with an ailment that finally caused her death. She was courageous and patient through the years of her suffering in caring for the home and her aged mother.

Ruie, as she was known in the home and to all, was a dutiful daughter, faithful wife, loving sister and mother, and a true friend to all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Cantril Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, in charge of the Rev. A.M. Hadley, assisted by the Rev. David Eastburn. Singers were Mrs. Pauline Hurwitz and Mrs. Maude Hootman, with Mrs. Maude Hootman, with Mrs. Eva Cretcher pianist. Pallbearers were William Kisling, B.C. Casady, Hugh Davidson, Van Short, Hugh Whitney and Craig Smith.
