Lorraine Frances Samons

Lorraine Frances Samons died, Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Klein Center in Burlington.

A graveside memorial service was held this morning at Leando Cemetery in Douds, with Pete Gardner officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Burlington Educational Foundation in the Burlington School District or to the donor's choice. Cards and memorials can be sent to: Dayle Eden, 30414 210th St., Bonaparte 52620k. Online condolences can be made at behnerfh.com.

Arrangements were in the care of Behner Funeral Home & Crematory.

Miss Samons was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Fairfield, the daughter of of(err) Nobel E. Myrtle Gilliland Samons.

She was educated in the Jefferson County rural schools, Batavia and Fairfield high schools. She earned her bachelor's degree from Parsons College in Fairfield and a master's degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri.

She was a longtime teacher in the Walnut and Round Prairie township rural schools, Batavia Elementary School, the Department of Defense schools in Germany and Okinawa, and the Burlington community schools from which she retired in June 1989.

She strongly believed in and supported the educational organization to which she belonged, and like most teachers, continued to remain current in all aspects of education.

Her greatest interests were involvement in her family, her profession, in travel and people in general. She was a member of Retired School Personnel, Alpha - Delta, Kappa Honorary Teachers Sorority and Burlington Woman's Club.

Miss Samons is survived by cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George and Richard Samons; and three sisters, Ruth and Irma Samons and Lois Parrish.
