Drowning At Montrose

FORT MADISON - Edward Irvin Jeffrey, 44-year-od mechanis at the Woglemuth Oldsmobile garage, was drowned in the Mississppi river two miles north of Montrose late Sunday night.

Jeffrey had gone into the river at 10:15 to run fish lines. He went down at 10:45. The body was recovered at about 7 a.m. Monday.

Jeffrey's home was at 1601 Avenue G. He had been a resident of Fort Madison for the last three years.

A life resident of Henry and Lee counties, Jeffery was born in Henry county on June 10, 1911. On July 23, 1931, he was married to Nina Newman at eKokuk(sp). She survives, as do his mother, Mrs. Ella Jane Roe Jeffrey, of Montrose; two daughters: Mrs. Charles Helmick, Fort Madison, and Yvonne Jeffrey, at home, and a granddaughter.

Two brothers and five sisters also survive: Frank Jeffrey, Devil's Lake, N. Dak.; Charles Jeffrey, USAF, stationed in Germany; Mrs. Lawrence Woodbury, Kahoka, Mo.; Mrs. Claude Skinner, Hampton; Mrs. John Kite, Montrose; Mrs. Robert Fairlie, Jr., Wever, and Mrs. A.S. Derr, Mrs. Alva Rudd and Mrs. Glen Egley, all of Fort Madison.

Services will be conducted by The Clements at 2 p.m. Thursday. Officiating will be the Rev. Stanley Kennedy, pastor of the Methodist church of New Boston, Ia. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Jeffrey was a member of the Methodist church, the FOE, the LOM and the Izaak Walton League.
