Mrs. Hattie U. Srout

Hattie U. Srout, daughter of Joshua and Clara Briggs, was born in Bangor, Maine, Aug. 26, 1871; and departed this life Jan. 20, 1959 at a nursing home in Marion, Iowa where she had recently been taken. They moved to Milton in 1931. Fifteen months ago she went to live with her son Harold, in Marion.

On July 2, 1892 she was united in marriage to Edgar E. Srout, at Chelsea, Massachusetts. To this union were born four children, Charlie, Edna, Harold and Willard.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and two children, Charlie and Edna, who died in early childhood.

She loved music and when a girl of five sang for the evangelists, Moody and Sankey, in Chelsea, Mass. She was a member of the Grace Methodist church of Milton, and was active in church and choir as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are two sons, Harold of Marion, Iowa, and Willard of Rivervale, New Jersey; a brother, William Briggs of Linden, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and many friends.

Funeral services were held in Milton at the Wellborn funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 24, 1959, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery.
