BIRMINGHAM W.C.T.U. HEAD DIES; FUNERAL TO BE FRIDAY.

Birmingham, Aug. 27. - Mrs. Mary Christina Williams, born near Mt. Zion, April 5, 1854, died at her home in Birmingham Wednesday morning at 8:30 aged 77 years. She was the second daughter of Henry and Mary Hootman, pioneer residents of Van Buren county.

She was married to Thomas L. Williams January 23, 1873. He died August 4, 1921. She was the mother of ten children, Mrs. Esther Burns, Ottumwa; Ezra Williams, Irving Williams, Mrs. Emma McLain of Birmingham; Mrs. Florence McCall, Brighton, Colo.; Glenn Williams, Birmingham; Fred Williams, Keosauqua; Mrs. Ethel Buckmaster of Akron, Colo.; Ora Williams of Keosauqua and Lloyd Williams of Birmingham. She is also survived by three brothers, Jud Hootman of Cantril, Todd Hootman of San Diego, Calif., and Hovey Hootman of Douds, three sisters, Mrs. Mall Small of Birmingham, Mrs. Ada Powelson of Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Orpha Ogden of Birmingham, one aunt, Mrs. Theresa Sherod of Mt. Zion, and thirty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She united with the Presbyterian church in early life and later transferred her membership to the Methodist church at Birmingham.

She was president of the W.C.T.U. at the time of her death, also an active member of the Ladies' Aid and of the Women's Foreign Missionary society.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the pastor, the Rev. F.M. James, assisted by the Rev. H.C. Irvine of the Presbyterian church. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery.
