Miss Kate Hootman, daughter of Henry and Mary Hootman, passed away at the St. Joseph's hospital Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock, aged 70 years. She was born in 1860 near Mt. Zion, where her girlhood days were spent. She went west when a young woman and lived at Walla Walla, Wash., for more than thirty years, returning here five years ago to live near her sisters, the four living almost in the same block. She was one of a family of nine children. The following brothers and sisters survive: Mrs. Mary Williams, Mrs. Mall Small and Mrs. Orpha Ogden of Birmingham; Mrs. Ada Powelson of Santa Ana, Calif.; Jud of Cantril; Todd of San Diego, Calif., and Hovey of Birmingham. Martha and Guy preceded her in death. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Birmingham Thursday afternoon in charge of the pastor, the Rev. H.C. Irvine. Interment in the Miller Chapel cemetery.
