Olive Moland Sexton

Olive Ellen Moland, second daughter of Israel and Anna Moland, was born near Ipava, Ill., on December 19, 1866; and passed away at the home of her son, Roy in Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday, March 10, 1957, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 21 days. She was one of a family of seven children, all preceding her in death except on brother, Have F. Moland of Bartlesville, Oklhoma.

She was united in marriage to Russell L. Sexton of Vermont, Ill., on December 30, 1890. They lived for a time in Vermont, Ill.; Moulton, Iowa; Kirksville and Memphis, Mo.; but moved to Milton, Iowa, in 1899 where they established a bakery and restaurant business. Three children were born to this union: Neta who passed away in 1906, at the age of 9 years; Roy L.; and Mabel. Following the death of her husband on March 20, 1913, Mrs. Sexton continued to make her home in Milton and reared her children while running a boarding house.

Mrs. Sexton has been a long time member of the Grace Methodist Church in Milton.

Since 1949 when she fell and broke her hip, she has been in declining health and made her home with her daughter and her son.

Surviving are a son and wife, Roy and Annabelle Sexton of Burlington; her daughter and husband, Mabel and Crain Van Auken of Cantril; three grandchildren, Mrs. Ralph Erts of Milo; Mrs. Robert Davison and Kandise Sue Sexton of Burlington; two great grandsons, Dean and Martin Erts of Milo; a great grand-daughter, Robin Davison of Burlington; one brother, Harve H. Moland of Bartlesville, Okla.; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

She was a loving mother, good friend and neighbor to all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at the Grace Methodist Church at Milton on March 12, 1957, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Harryman of Milton officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery.
