Jack Heston, 89 years old, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, and went to eternal heaven on July 23, 2016. Jack was born in Stockport, IA, on April 18, 1927, to Floyd Heston and Mary Doze Heston Poole.

Jack served his country by joining the navy during World War II, participating in Operation Downfall.

Upon his return home from service, he married Alene Acorn. They farmed in Birmingham, IA, and raised their only son, Donald (Skip) Heston.

In 1969 they moved to Gulfport, MS, and Jack became a self-employed well known home builder on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In 1979 he retired from the construction business. Jack decided he could not sit idle and opened a salvage store in Gulfport where he worked another 26 years until the store was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Again, still unable to sit idle, he purchased a home in Perkinston, MS, where he built custom furniture in his shop and did this until three weeks before he passed away.

Jack enjoyed life and had many hobbies. He enjoyed taking care of his beloved dogs and spending quality time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many friends he made during his lifetime.

Survivors include his son, Donald “Skip” Heston, and his wife Christine of Florida, two grandsons, Donnie Heston and his wife Shauna and their two children, Taylor and Bryant Heston; his grandson, David Heston and his daughter, Amanda Heston; his brother, Charles "Bud" Heston and wife Ruth, and their children and grandchildren; and the children and grandchildren of his sister, Julia Anderson. In addition, he will be greatly missed by his niece and nephew, Merry Hull and Matt Abraham, and their children.

Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife Alene who passed away in 1988, his mother and father, his sister, Julia Anderson in 2012, and a half-brother, Roger Heston.

The family will have a graveside service at the Biloxi National Cemetery at a time yet to be determined. Services were handled by Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport.
