CIVIL WAR VETERAN IS TAKEN BY DEATH AT HOME YESTERDAY
Chas. W. Gaston Passes Away After Long Illness - Funeral Services Tuesday.

Charles W. Gaston, Civil War veteran and well known resident of Fort Madison, passed away early yesterday morning at his home, 215 Second street, after a prolonged illness.

He was born at Pleasant Valley, Ohio, March 9, 1846 and has been a resident of Fort Madison for the past 36 years. He was a member of the G.A.R., having served with Comapny(sp) E, 88th regiment of Ohio volunteer infantry. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Besides the wife he is survived by three sons, Floyd A., Charles W., Jr., and Glenn D., all of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Saltsgaver and Mrs. Clarence Gaston in Ohio; three brothers, Dr. S.M. Gaston, Keokuk; Milton D. Gaston, Dyersville, Ohio; and E.E. Gaston, Milton, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ella Barnes, Pennsylvania; and nine grandchildren. Another son, Beryl passed away in May, 1921.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Tuesday morning from the home. Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery. Rev. Bentsinger will officiate.
