Rosa Anna Gaston, daughter of Lemuel and Mary McIntire was born Oct. 13, 1849, in Jasper county, Mo., and passed away Sept. 24, 1943, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mamie Madden at Mt. Sterling, Iowa, at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 11 days.

She was united in marriage to J.W. Gaston, Jan. 13, 1870, who preceded her in death March 30, 1934. To this union were born four children, a daughter, Mrs. Ella Tharp, and a son Will preceded her in death, and a daughter, Mrs. Mamie Madden and a son, Clyde Gaston; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Will Gaston, and a son-in-law, J.T. Tharp surviving. When a girl she united with the Methodist church and her life has been a devoted one to the Christian cause.

Grandma Gaston is also survived by five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren, several nieces and a host of friends.

Her life since her marriage has been spent near Mt. Sterling.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 26, 1943, at 2 o'clock at Center Chapel church northeast of Mt. Sterling, Iowa, by the Rev. Treverton Warren, assisted by Rev. Jay Waterman. Interment was in the Center Chapel cemetery.
