MRS. JACOB H. CARTNAL

Martha Adeline Harr, daughter of Charles and Rachel Gares Harr, was born near Anson, Clark county, Missouri, Feb. 10, 1856, and departed this life on April 3, 1934, aged 78 years, one month and 24 days.

She was the last surviving child in a family of eight children, [sic] On August 13, 1876, she was united in marriage with Jacob H. Cartnal and to this union nine children were born, Mrs. Allie Murphy of near Farmington, Mrs. Bertie Carter of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Lydia Purdy of Rutledge, Mo., Mrs. Ethel Courtney of Farmington, Miss Nora Cartnal and Mrs. Irma Burger at home, and Charles and Clark Cartnal of near Farmington. One son, Joseph Cartnal, preceded his mother in death on March 3, 1932. On Dec. 28, 1907, the husband and father passed away leaving Mrs. Cartnal a widow.

The last 57 years of her life were spent continuously on the same farm on which she died.

Mrs. Cartnal's last illness has been of ten week's duration during which time she has been a patient sufferer, and one of the comforts of her declining years has been the happy privilege of having most of her children near her and who have ministered to her every wish. She was a kind and loving mother, her home and her children were her greatest interest and she devoted herself to her children and home.

She was a good neighbor and endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact.

Besides the above mentioned children, Mrs. Cartnal is survived by seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held in the Anson church April 5, at 2 p.m., and were conducted by the Rev. Harvey E. Butler of the Farmington M. E. church.
