Lillie Mankin Hales was born in Columbiana Co. Ohio, Jan. 20, 1867, and died at the late home near Oakland, N.D. Friday Aug. 12, 1910, at the age of 42 years 5 months and 22 days. She came with her parents to Mt. Sterling, Iowa in 1879.

On September 3, 1874 [1884] she was united in marriage to Wm. C. [William George] Hales.
To this union were born two children; Mary [Marie Isabelle], now Mrs. H. F. [Hutton Frank] Irwin, of Tioga, N.D. and Otto E. [William Otto].

About ten years ago the family moved to N. D. where they have made their continuous home. Mrs Hales had been suffering from cancer of the breast which was the cause of her death and while it was understood that she was in very poor health, yet death came as a shock to all. Her mother, [Lucretia Bushong Mankin] a resident of Cantril, was at her home in the hour of death.

She is survived by her mother , husband, daughter and son, Mrs C. V. Stonebraker, of this place; Mrs Marion Poling, of Keosauqua; Mrs Eva Perry, of Towner, N. D.; Chas. Mankin, of Calif.; E.C. Mankin, of Harrisburg Tp., this county, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held from the home Sunday, Aug. 14,1910, by Rev. Rhinehart, interment being made in the cemetery at Willow City, N.D.
