Private John M. Young

Pvt. John M. (Jack) Young has been killed in action in Burma, according to a war department telegram received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Young of Keosauqua. The message received March 2 said that he had been killed on February 2. Their last letter from him written January 20, was received February 13 and said that he was going into action the next day.

His death occurred on his mother's birthday and only six days short of his own 19th birthday.

Born in Argyle, Iowa, February 8, 1936, he moved with his parents to Keosauqua on March 1, 1940, and entered service on May 10, 1944, as a member of a cavalry unit at Fort Riley, Kansas. He had his only furlough last September and left early in October for Fort Ord, Calif. going overseas to India, Nov. 8, 1944.

Surviving besides his parents are three sisters, Mrs. C.E. White and Mrs. Oma Mae Dahner of Burbank, Calif., and Mrs. J.B. Mudge of Los Angeles.

Unconsolable because of his death, Mr. and Mrs. Young are moving to California.
