Sam V. Whitaker, Jr.

Sam V. Whitaker, Jr., 31, son of Sam V. Whitaker Sr. and Leona Semier Whitaker was born Oct. 6, 1932 near Hillsboro, Iowa, and passed away July 13, 1963. Mr. Whitaker was killed early Saturday in a car-truck collision six miles north of Keokuk on Highway 218.

He was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist church and a past master of the Belmont Lodge at Hillsboro. He graduated from the Hillsboro high school and was a student two years at Parsons College at Fairfield. He was a member of the Lafayette Royal Arch Masons of the Bonaparte Lodge. He was a well-known farmer in the Hillsboro community.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Leona Whitaker. Surviving are his father, Sam V. Whitaker, Sr., and his stepmother, Mrs. Betty Whitaker of Hillsboro; one brother, William Whitaker, Stockport; two sisters, Mrs. John (Patricia) Becker of Watertown, Wisc. and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Hixson of Black Springs, Nev., and several cousins, nieces nephews and other relatives.

Last rites were held July 15 at the Hillsboro Baptist church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles Grooms officiating. Organ music was played by Mrs. Vinton Hoaglin. Pallbearers were Kenneth Johnson, Arthur Page, Howard Johnson, Burch Boley, Donald Shelman, Dale Boley, Cleo Taeger and M.M. Doan Jr.

Burial was in the Hillsboro cemetery with Masonic services at the graveside.
