James Edgar Hopson.

James Edgar Hopson, son of Elam and Nancy Hopson, was born in Adams Co., Ill. Feb., 9th, 1847, and passed away at his home on North B. St. Fairfield, Iowa, Thursday evening, March 29th, at 9:20 p.m. He had been in declining health for several years, but the end came quite suddenly. He suffered an attack of flu some weeks ago but was much improved, when his heart which was weekened by his illness, failed him. Many years of his life was spent in the state where he was born. He resided at Mt. Zion, Iowa, for several years, but for a number of years, Fairfield has been his home. He was very fond of children, but never had any of his own but several who were bereft of their own parents found a home at his place, where he and the good wife made a comfortable home for them.

He is survived by his wife, who was Louvica Umphrey, to whom he was married Oct. 1st, 1873, also two sisters, Mrs. Moses Griffith of Plymouth, Ill., Mrs. Nellie Winston of Quincy, Ill. His funeral was preached at the M.E. Church, at Kilbourne, Iowa, at 2:30, March 1st, by Rev. B.H. Morse. He was laid to rest in the little cemetery close by. Many relatives and friends followed him to his last resting place. Pallbearers, his nephews, R.S. and Sam Gilbert, C.W. and Vere Towne, S. Hoskins and A.I. Stump.

Those who attended the funeral of Mr. Hopson from a distance were: Mrs. M. Griffith of Plymouth, Ill., Mrs. Allie Hopson and Mrs. Addie Dick of Hamilton, Ill., Mrs. Orpha Murphy, of Farmington, Iowa, C.W. Towne and wife, and Rachel Fisher of Eldon. A.I. Stump and wife of Libertyville, Stanley Hoskins of Cantril. Mr. Hopson's other sister, Mrs. Winston, is lying seriously ill at her home in Quincy, Ill, therefore was unable to be present.
