Bertha Seward Galloway.

Bertha Seward Galloway was born October 6, 1872, near Bentonsport, Iowa, and passed from this life September 13, 1921, at her home in Carroll, Iowa.

She grew to womanhood in Bentonsport and spent several years of her life in the teaching profession. She united in marriage with George Galloway, December 26, 1895, to which union were born, viz: Dorothy, Helen, Theodore and Roderick, all of whom survive the mother.

She is also survived by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Seward of Bentonsport; a brother, John A., of Birch Tree, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Lee Dustin of Birmingham, Iowa; Mrs. O.C. Morrison of Carroll, Iowa; and Miss Grace Seward of Bentonsport, Iowa.

She united with the M.E. church in her home town at the age of 20, and maintained her interest in religious affairs until her departure to the higher life.

Mrs. Galloway's life presents a perfect picture of a faithful wife and a most devoted mother. No service or sacrifice was ever too great to render for their welfare or happiness. She possessed a strong and pleasing personality, full of faith in the things unseen and always wore a smile, which was the manifestation of her optimism.

During her extended suffering she displayed a heroism worthy of the soldier upon the battlefield in her tenacity to live in order that she might still render service to her loved ones. She was not afraid to die.

As an assistant to her husband in his educational work in Carroll County, she proved a most capable and efficient co-worker, and made close friends with all whom she came in touch.

Mrs. Galloway was sincerely and profoundly religious. It expressed itself in service, sacrifice and sympathy for her fellow beings. Her modesty forbade the lip service expression. In moral standards she lived on the mountain tops and her life invited others to the same lofty height. Her memory now becomes a cherished heritage to her family and hosts of associates and friends. She was associated with the Eastern Star order and quite prominent in that society.

The funeral service was held on Thursday afternoon, the 15th, at the Presbyterian church in Bentonsport, and the body interred in the Bentonsport cemetery.
