Obituary of G.W. Reatherford.

George W. Reatherford was born July 4th, 1850, in Davis county, Iowa, and departed this life August 10, 1911, at his home near Kilbourne, Iowa. Mr. Reatherford was one of a family of three, a brother and sister preceding him in death. He was left an orphan at an early age, and was raised by a family named Cameron. he was married to Christina Armentrout Nov. 23rd, 1871. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Rose Hootman of Kilbourne, Io.; Mrs. Mary Steinhouser of Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Hendricks of Fairfield, Iowa; George Delmar and Henry of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Eddie who died when quite young. He was ferryman during the first years he resided at Kilbourne, finally buying and moving to the small fruit farm, where he continued to reside until his death. Mr. Reatherford was of a quiet, retiring disposition yet heartily enjoyed a joke. The writer has known him for years but never heard him speak a harmful word of anyone. His funeral was preached at the M.E. church at Kilbourne, Aug. 12, by Rev. C.G. Ellis. He was interred in the Kilbourne cemetery. He is survived by his wife, five children, four grandchildren and other relatives, who mourn the loss of one who was always kind to his family and friends.
