Nellie Susan Carter, daughter of Silas and Catharine Carter, was born near Pierceville, Iowa, Nov. 11, 1876, and died at her home in Fairfield, Iowa, June 6, 1913, her age being 36 years, 6 months, and 25 days.

She was united in marriage to Frank Smith Dec. 31, 1893, who with four sons and two daughters survive here, vis. Clyde L., Orville N., Hazel E., Willis A., Loran L. and Goldie M. She is also survived by her father, one sister, and two brothers.

She was laid to rest at Miller’s Chapel by the side of her mother who preceded her in death only five weeks before. The services were conducted by Rev. E.S. Hehner of Stockport.

She was a kind daughter and loving wife and mother and was held in high esteem by all that knew her. The bereaved husband and children, father, sister, and brothers have the sympathy of all in their great loss.
