Elizabeth Adams, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Reniker, was born in Harrison county, Ohio, August 25, 1841, and died at the home of her son, A.B. Adams, in Selma, Feb. 3, 1910, aged 68 years, 5 months and 8 days. In 1846 her parents came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Birmingham, where she grew to womanhood. She was married August 28, 1859, to Frederick Grafton Adams. They leave three children living, Mrs. Leanah Strahn, Mrs. Rose Milam, and A.B. Adams, all of whom were present at her funeral. One daughter, Edith May, died in infancy. Elizabeth Adams was the eldest of nine children, one brother, Willie, dying in childhood. The brothers and sisters who survive are, Mrs. Margaret Williams, El Paso, Texas; Mrs. Mary Martin, Stronghurst, Ill.; Simon Reniker, Ottumwa, Iowa; Mrs. Adeline Harlan, Croton, Iowa; Mrs. Hanna Steele, Nevada, Mo.; and Amos Reniker, Moulton, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. Lydia Bell, of Gage, Oklahoma, died about a year ago.
On March 14, 1908, she was bereaved of her husband. Those who knew their devotion to each other, realize how deeply she felt the loss. She continued to stay at the old home for more than a year, but decided to spend the winter with her children. On January 15, she took suddenly ill with pneumonia but rallied and seemed to be recovering. She suffered a stroke of paralysis, Feb. 2, and in a few hours passed peacefully away. Grandma, or Aunt Lib, as those who knew her best tenderly called her, was a woman of rare sweet character. In early life she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, but because of loss of hearing in later years she gave up the attending of church services. Hers was a life unostentatious amd retiring, full of good deeds and kindly words. Knowing full well the loss sustained by her loved ones, we can only recommend them to the care of the Heavenly Father who doeth all things well. The funeral was held in the M.E. church at Selma, Feb. 4, conducted by her pastor Rev. W.H. Jones and she was laid to rest beside her husband in Iowaville cemetery.
