Clinton House

On the 21st of December 1905 a little son came into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Noah B. House, near Media, Ill., and for nearly ten and one half years, his happy little life shedding sunshine in the home to which God had loaned him. Unusually bright for his age and possessing a most lovable disposition little Clinton was not only the idol in his own home but endeared himself to a large circle of friends who loved him for his sweet winsomeness and quaint little ways.

For some years he had been affected with muscular atrophy but never too sick to lisp his little prayers. All that medical skill, good nursing and tireless parent care and love would do was done to relieve his patient suffering and restore him to health, but it was all in vain. It seems as if the great gardener who had given this tender little bud to the care of loving parents needs him now to bloom and beautify the heavenly garden, so Tuesday morning, May 23, ere the dark had given way to the dawn the little flower dropped his head, the pulse ceased to register the heartbeats, the eyelids closed for those one lustrous blue eyes, the pain racked little body was at rest and when the dawn came little Clinton’s spirit had returned to the God who gave it, another added to the masters heavenly garland.

Clinton was deprived of many of the pleasures of life because of his infirmities but always bearing his lot with great patience and cheerfulness, he loved the birds and flowers and spent many pleasant hours in their company. It was his delight to watch the little songsters build their nests in the homes he would provide for them, he loved his playmates with a kind and affectionate love and in his quiet hours would often speak of the many kindnesses shown toward him-he loved to hear the word of God read.

The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church in Bonaparte, Iowa, May 25th at 1:00 o’clock conducted by Rev. J.H. Lane of Lucerne, Mo., interment in Bonaparte Cemetery. There was a large concourse of relatives and friends present to pay the last tribute of respect to their dear little friend. The services were made impressive and beautiful by twelve little boy playmates, preceding the procession, carrying white carnations, which at the cemetery they dropped upon the casket.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mr. and Mrs. House in this, their sad hour. The relatives from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Thompson, and Mr. W.A. Thompson of Media, Ill.; Mrs. W.M. Yoho and Mrs. W.H. Anderson of Smithshire, Ill.
Look up dear friends in thy grief; tis God alone can give relief; He knows your hearts with grief are riven (sic), while your dear one is safely housed in heaven. Remember this life is but fleet, then your dear Clinton you shall meet where parting never more shall come eternally in that blessed home.
