Mrs. Hugh Matheson, 68, died unexpectedly at 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 in the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital where she had been taken just a few hours earlier following a heart attack.

Sarah Jane, the daughter of James and Iowa McCracken Rankin, was born May 28, 1895 in Van Buren County and lived here her entire life. Her marriage to Hugh Matheson took place May 26, 1917.

She is survived by her husband and her son, Lester; two grandchildren, Linda and Betty, and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Beer, all of Keosauqua. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Rankin and her parents.

Mrs. Matheson was a member of Center Chapel Methodist Church. Services were held Saturday, Dec. 7 at Center Chapel Church, with the Rev. E.S. Tschetter officiating. Burial was in the Center Chapel cemetery.
