Arthur K. Brewster, son of the late Hardin and Frances Brewster, was born near Keosauqua on October 5, 1877. His entire life was spent in this community with the exception of the last few years when he moved to Fairfield. He passed away suddenly Thursday, Jan. 22nd, 1948, near Fairfield. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Otto, and one sister, Mrs. Lucy Harryman. Those who survive are his wife, Pearl Brewster; and the following brothers and sister: Oscar of Bonaparte, Oran of Ft. Collins, Colo., Howard of Boulder, Colo., Clyde of Keosauqua and Mrs. Charles Finn of Mt. Pleasant. Early in life he was united with the Methodist church at Center Chapel. He was married on April 9, 1902 to Pearl Starr at Keosauqua.
He devoted over a quarter of a century to the carrying of rural mail and after 30 years of untiring service he retired. Later taking a star mail route to Packwood. It was while serving in this capacity he suffered a heart attack which resulted in death.
Arthur Brewster was very well and favorably known throughout this town and the surrounding communities where he has lived so long. His cheerful smile, his willingness to help, his courteous manner, and friendly personality made a host of friends and he will be greatly missed in the wide circle of those who have been associated with him for so many years.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 22, [note: Sunday would have been the 25th] at 1:00 p.m. in the Keosauqua Methodist church, in charge of Rev. E. Allen Magill. Music was by Keith Gaston with Esther Arthmann, organist. Pallbearers were El Dorothy, Bates Manning, Hazen Blackburn, Clyde Richardson, Wayne Davidson and Robert R. McBeth. Burial was made in Center Chapel cemetery.
