Death of Mrs. Thomas Rankin.
Mrs. Thomas Rankin, whose fatal illness was referred to last week, passed away Thursday morning last, and is at rest.
Amanda Rankin was born at Xenia, Ohio, June 13, 1821, and died Sept. 22, 1904, at the home of her daughter, at Keosauqua, Iowa. She was the daughter of Chapple H. Bonner, one of Van Buren county's early pioneers, and the youngest of five children, only one of whom, Mrs. Elizabeth Hogue, survives her. She was married near Lebanon, this county, to Thomas Rankin, Oct. 8, 1845, and was the mother of six children of whom four survive her. They are James C. Rankin of Arizona, Archie T. Rankin, Colorado, George A. Rankin of San Francisco and Mary E. Brown of Keosauqua, Iowa.
Mother Rankin was converted when she was about 18 years of age, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which she remained a member until her death. Her last words were, "Home. I want to go home," at the same time pointing upward. She was a kind and considerate mother to her children who unite in calling her blessed. She was a kind neighbor and a good friend, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her.
The funeral was held from the residence of Judge Brown Sunday afternoon being conducted by Rev. Hardy A. Ingham, assisted by Rev. C.E. Perkins. The pall bearers Dr. Craig, S.W. Manning, Arch Brown, Samuel Hogue, C.K. Miller and E.R. Harlan.
