Rex V. Rambo

Rex Vale Rambo, son of Cyrus C. Rambo and Bertha Holts Rambo, was born at Leando, Iowa Nov. 2, 1887 and departed this life May 27, 1939 at the Fairfield Hospital. He was left motherless when less than a year old, but his stepmother later came to take her place along with his sister, Blanche.

At the age of 12 he moved with his father to a farm near Keosauqua, where he attended school and later farmed with his father. He was married to Bertha Camblin of Douds, Iowa on January 28, 1909.

To this union were born seven children: Vinton of Shippensburg, Pa.; Verla Woody of St. Louis, Mo., Monte, Aileen, Lucile, Lawrence and Alice Jean at home. His mother preceded him in death in 1888, his father in 1922 and a sister Blanche in 1911.

He is survived by his wife and 7 children; two sisters: Mrs. Alma Thompson and Mrs. Mary Morrow, of West Des Moines; three brothers J.H. Rambo of Kansas City, Mo., Dr. Cleve Rambo of Crestn, Iowa; and Argus Rambo of Fairfield; his stepmother Mrs. C.C. Rambo of West Des Moines; and numerous other relatives as well as host of friends.

He was converted at the Methodist church of Keosauqua at an early age and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Keosauqua.

Though not active in public activities, he was always backing anything which would benefit the community. He was a man respected by all who knew him for his honesty and integrity.

His chief interests centered about his home and family and to these he gave himself with utter abandon. In his ambition to help them achieve the goals and the ideals he had set for them he drove himself sometimes almost beyond his strength. Although he was not well the morning he made his last trip he characteristically refused to consider himself and insisted on performing what he felt was his duty.

The funeral services were held at the Keosauqua Methodist Church, Monday May 29, Rev. C.H. Orf pastor of the church officiated. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery.
