Mrs. J.W. O'Harra.

A little over a year ago it was our sad duty to chronicle the passing of one of Hancock county's noblemen, Jefferson W. O'Harra, on June 24, 1907, and now are we called upon to record the passing of his devoted wife to the other shore where they are now no doubt, in joyful reunion.

Paulina Robertson was born near Camp Point, Ill., on May 9, 1838, and died in Carthage, Ill., Sept. 18, 1908, aged 70 years, 4 months and 9 days.

At the early age of six years death deprived her of a mother's love and care. Her mother's sister, Mrs. Harriet Garner, at once became a member of the home and cared for her until her father's second marriage.

On April 3, 1856, she was married to Jefferson W. O'Harra. The first three years of their married life was spent on a farm near Camp Point. They then moved to Hancock county, near Denver, where they resided seven years. In 1866 they moved to Bentley, which remained their home for 33 years. In 1899 they came to Carthage. Here occurred the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage and here on June 24, 1907, Jefferson O'Harra passed away.

For three years Mrs. O'Harra has been in poor health. This summer she has been gradually growing weaker, but it was not until last Tuesday that she was compelled to take to her bed. From that time she failed rapidly and on Friday morning at 11 o'clock quietly and peacefully as a tired child, she fell asleep.

She was the mother of nine children, three of whom preceeded her to her heavenly home. In 1890, Laura, her granddaughter, at that time a babe of two weeks, entered the home and for those eighteen years has been an inmate therein.

Of the six living children all were present at the time of the mother's death except Cleophas; who, because of the serious illness of his wife, is detained at his home in Rapid City, S.D.

Mrs. O'Harra's christian life will ever be a blessed influence in the lives of her children. Very early in life the Savior's love and mercy found her and claimed her for His own. He has been her hope from her youth and her guide even into old age. With the calmness of the Christian heart she entered the Valley of the Shadows, and with the quiet confidence of them who have kept the faith, she passed from the scenes of this life and went to be with God.

The funeral was held from the residence 734 Walnut street, where the family had but two weeks ago moved from Main Street. Rev. T.E. Newland conducted the services at 2:30 o'clock in the presence of a large assemblage of relatives and friends. Interment at Moss Ridge.
