CLEM M. PERKINS

Clem M. Perkins, youngest son of James Francis and Nevada Moore Perkins was born near Mt. Zion in Van Buren county, Iowa, July 20, 1889, and passed away only a short distance from his birthplace, Sunday afternoon, October 8, 1939, aged fifty years, 2 months and 18 days. His death resulted from a heart ailment from which he suffered for about a year.

He spent a happy boyhood on the home farm, attended the Mt. Zion school and assisted his father on the farm. When only a lad, he engaged in business with his father and early showed remarkable talent for the handling and marketing of livestock.

January 15, 1913, he was united in marriage with Lucinda Miller of Mt. Zion and they established their home on the Perkins farm. To this union three children were born, two daughters, Evelyn and Dorothy and one son, Richard, all of whom are at home.

In 1926 the family moved to Keosauqua that he might be more centrally located for the operation of his business and to give his family the advantages of town schools.

Mr. Perkins was a member of the Masonic lodge. While not a member of any church, he always manifested deep interest in the church his family attended and ministers of the church found a warm welcome in his home.

He was a member of the Keosauqua board of education and during the past seven years was given freely of his time and excellent business judgment for the advancement of the school system.

Surviving are the wife and three children, a sister, Mrs. Pearl Regur of Hemet, Calif., and a brother, Ross of Chehalis, Wash., a number of nieces and nephews and many more distant relatives. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

In his passing the community has lost a good citizen, and kind friend, his wife and family, the wise counsel and loving care of a kind and generous husband and father.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Keosauqua, Wednesday afternoon in charge of the Rev. Paul J. Jackson of Denver, Colo., a former pastor. Interment was in Purdom cemetery.
