Edith Adeline Duncan, 92, of the River Hills Village in Keokuk, formerly of Farmington, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Born November 8, 1922, near Farmington, IA, the daughter of Clark and Mable Mitchell Cartnal. On August 12, 1942, she married Clayton H. Duncan. Shortly after her marriage, her husband was drafted into the army where he served for three and a half years. During this time she studied and passed her G.E.D. tests and received her high school diploma. She attended Flat Rock School through the eighth grade. Soon after her husband was discharged from the army, they moved to a farm southwest of Farmington, IA. She took courses to be a home health aide. She worked for Van Buren County as a Home Health Aide for nine years. She cooked for Head Start for two years and worked as janitor at the First Baptist Church for 12 years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Farmington for 32 years.

Most important in her life was her family, friends, and her service to the Lord. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and life on the farm.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clayton on July 14, 2000, one sister, Evelyn Cecil, and one great-grandson, Timmy Van Patten.

Survivors include two daughters: Suzanne Smith of Chatham, IL, and Jeannie (Robert) Hetzer of Fort Madison, IA, one son, Roger (Mary Ann) Duncan of Altoona, IA, seven grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 15, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Farmington with Rev. Phillip Schmidt and Rev. Chad Welch officiating.

Burial was in the Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington.

The Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home of Farmington assisted the family with arrangements.
