THE LIFE STORY of Eldred Stott McLeland
Funeral services for Eldred Stott McLeland, 50, of 4034 East 48th Street, Des Moines, former Milton resident, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 15, at the Capitol Heights Methodist Church in Des Moines. Services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Henn, pastor of that church. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.
Eldred Stott McLeland, son of Lon and Stella Stott McLeland, was born March 11, 1902, at Cantril, and died August 13, 1952, in Des Moines General Hospital following a major operation.
He spent most of his early life in Milton, graduating from the Milton High School in 1922. Following his graduation from Iowa Wesleyan College at Mt. Pleasant in 1926, he served five years as principal and superintendent of the Barnes City Consolidated Schools and two years as principal and athletic coach on the Keosauqua High School faculty.
On June 26, 1927, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Morgan of Milton. For the past 17 years they have lived in Des Moines where he was employed with the Des Moines Railway Company. He was a member of the University Christian Church.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Marjorie, two sons, Morgan, 19, and Jan, 13, his stepmother, Mrs. Dora McLeland of Milton, and two half sisters, Mrs. Hazel Sherwood and Lela McLeland, both of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded by his parents, one sister, who died in infancy, and a half sister, Mrs. Gladys McLeland Mitchell.
Among the relatives and friends attending the funeral services in Des Moines Friday for Eldred McLeland were: Mrs. Dora McLeland, Gay Morgan, Mr. & Mrs. Ray McLeland, Mr. & Mrs. Warren Sherwood, Mr. & Mrs. Robert McLeland, Mr. & Mrs. J. C. Robinson and son Duane, and Mr. & Mrs. Guy Ornduff, all of Milton. Also Mr. & Mrs. Jim McLeland, of Keosauqua, Mrs. Ida McLeland of Cantril, Mrs. Harry McLeland of Stockport, Mr. & Mrs. Earl Morgan, Mrs. Anna McMains, Park Morgan and Mr. & Mrs. Lee Pinnell, all of Bloomfield, Mr. & Mrs. Leith McLeland and Mrs. Alvah Pinnell of Ottumwa, Jack Morgan of Mt. Vernon, Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Sherwood and son David, and Lela McLeland of Cedar Rapids, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Beranek of Ames and Mr. & Mrs. John McGilvey (McGilvrey) of Troy.
