EARL SCOTT
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m., for Earl Scott, 80, at the Methodist church in Birmingham, the Rev. A.E. McMurrin officiated. Mr. Scott passed away Monday, Sept. 7, at the Van Buren County Memorial hospital following a stroke suffered at his home in Birmingham. Interment was in Maple Hill cemetery at Birmingham.
Vocal selections were sung by Mrs. Mace Claridge and Floyd Williams with Mrs. Kathleen Johnston as accompanist. Pedrick's Funeral home of Douds were in charge of arrangements.
Earl Scott was born Sept. 25, 1878 to John and Elizabeth Richardson Scott on a farm four and a half miles southwest of Birmingham. On Dec. 16, 1900, he was united in marriage to Bertha Burden. To this union was born three children, one son dying in infancy.
Except for one year spent in New Mexico, Mr. Scott spent his entire life in the Birmingham community area. When a young man, he joined the White Chapel Methodist church in his home neighborhood. He was always active in the Birmingham community affairs and had served on the board of education for many years.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Pedrick of Douds; a son, Charles of Birmingham; a granddaughter, Joy Scott of Birmingham; a grandson, Robert Pedrick of Douds; two great-grandchildren, Kathleen and James Pedrick; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Rains and Mrs. Hazel Cupp of Fairfield; and Mrs. Etta Edmunds of Ottumwa; as well as other relatives and friends.
