Sarah Matilda, daughter of W.S. and Mary Elizabeth Davis, was born at Blandinsville, Ill., Sept. 1, 1877, and departed this life at her home in Keosauqua on Dec. 5, 1932, at the age of 55 years, 3 months and 4 days.
On August 25, 1896, she was united in marriage to Noble Chipman and to this union was born one son, Eula Chipman.
Clyde Davis, a nephew, and Charlie Winters, made their home with the Chipman’s for several years and Mrs. Chipman was generally called Mother Chipman by them.
Mrs. Chipman joined the Christian church in Blandinsville, Ill., in 1894 where she remained a member until death.
Besides her husband and son, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nina Chipman, two granddaughters, Rosalie and Frances Chipman, three brothers, Ira O. Davis of Blandinsville, Geo. Alva Davis of Ellisville, Ill., and T.J. Davis of Chicago, two sisters, Mrs. Permelia Miller of Bushnell, Ill., and Mrs. Stella Banks of Blandinsville, Ill., two brothers-in-law, Addison Chipman of Vernon and Otto Chipman of Ft. Madison, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Adaline Brewster of Keosauqua, besides uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces, neighbors and friends.
Mrs. Chipman was ambitious and industrous (sic) and a patient sufferer to the end.
Funeral services were held at Center Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in charge of Rev. M.E. Hayes. The sermon was preached by Rev. H.F. Gilbert of Cantril, a former pastor and old friend of the family.
