Mary Elizabeth Norwood, daughter of Ruth and David Norwood, was born Dec. 5, 1844, near New Castle, Pa., and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.J. Barker of Keosauqua, Iowa, at 1:20 p.m. Dec. 29, 1930, at the age of 86 years and 24 days. She came to Iowa with her parents in the year 1852, locating near Keokuk where they lived for about one year. In 1853 they moved to a farm near Utica, Iowa.
On Oct. 10, 1861, she was united in marriage to Thomas H. Teal, who preceded her in death July 4, 1916. To this union were born four children: J.F. Teal of Fairfield, Iowa, Mrs. J.H. Keck of Keosauqua and Mrs. R.J. Barker of Keosauqua; and T.F. Teal, deceased. In addition there are left to mourn their loss 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jane McDow of San Jose, Calif. She was a daughter of a Baptist minister and professed faith in Christ when a young woman and united with the Baptist church.
Mrs. Teal loved her home on the farm and it was there that her happiest days were spent, ministering to the comforts of her family and watching with a mother’s solicitude the growth and development of her children.
We sit in the shadows as loved ones because of the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, but we cherish memories of her loving kindness and thoughtfulness.
