This community was both shocked and saddened Tuesday evening, May 6, when the news flashed over the lines that Laura Bradford had passed away at the Kirksville Hospital where she had been taken on Friday before.
Laura Belle Huff, beloved daughter of John and Sarepta Huff, was born near Bonaparte, Iowa, June 19, 1890, and passed to the great beyond Tuesday evening, May 6, 1930, at the age of 39 years, 10 months and 16 days.
She united with the M.E. church at Story Chapel when quite young and has lived a true Christian life. Laura possessed a beautiful sunny disposition, always a pleasant smile and a kind word for all. She had a great talent for music, and with her fine alto voice, was a great help in the church and social affairs where she will be greatly missed. She was also one of Van Buren county’s most successful school teachers.
On April 24, 1910, she was united in marriage with Leely Bradford. To this union, one son, Norvin, was born, who is left without the wise counsel and loving care of a mother. Since her marriage she has lived at the parental Bradford home where she has been like a daughter to Mr. Bradford in his declining years. She also leaves to mourn her aged mother, one sister, Mrs. Sadie Elliott of Cantril, and five brothers, Harry and Everett of near Bonaparte, Fred of Mexico, Mo., Oscar of Macomb, Ill., and Ralph of Oakland, Calif., also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her father preceded her in death about ten years ago.
God, in His infinite wisdom knoweth best and has promised His healing comfort to those who are left behind.
Funeral services were held at Story Chapel church, Rev. John C. Porath having charge of the services, with interment in the Thompson cemetery. The Eastern Stars of Bonaparte had charge of the services at the grave.
