Katherine A. Carr was born on July 7, 1862 at Douds, Iowa, and was the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Carr. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity and on May 4, 1881, was married to Mark Bethenod. With her husband she moved to the Bethenod farm southwest of Farmington. Three children were born to this union, two of whom, Agnes and Victor, preceded the mother in death.

Following Mr. Simmons’ death in 1922 she moved back to Farmington where she made her home with her twin brothers, George and Will Carr, until her health began to fail her three years ago and she came to Keokuk to live with her daughter, Mrs. H.F. Wright.

Surviving her besides her daughter, Mrs. Wright, and son, Floyd J. Simmons of Farmington, she leaves her twin brothers, George and Will Carr of Farmington, a grandson, R.L. Bethenod of Ft. Madison, two granddaughters, Mary Katherine Crane of Keokuk and Roberta May Simmons of Farmington, two step-daughters, Mrs. Clarence Hornbaker and Mrs. Charles Wagner of Bonaparte, four step-grandsons, Martin and Bell Hornbaker and Harold and Benjamin Wagner of Bonaparte, and two step-granddaughters, Mrs. Phyllis Bittner of Cantril, and Frances Wagner of Bonaparte.

The funeral services were held from the Methodist church at Farmington Saturday afternoon at two o’clock.
