Martin Bland Dead.

Martin Bland, a former resident of Bonaparte, died suddenly of heart disease at his home in Keokuk at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday evening, aged 62 years. Yesterday's Gate City has the following concerning him: "He had worked all day in his blacksmith's shop and seemed in good health. He retired about 9:30 and about 10 o'clock his wife noticed that he was suffering. She endeavored to arouse him but her efforts were futile and he expired half an hour later.

He was born in Kentucky in 1836, and came to Keokuk in 1866 from Bloomfield in that state. He married Miss Margaret Anderson in this city the same year. She died in January, 1885. He lived in Bonaparte four or five years, but with that exception his home has been here since 1866. He was married a second time to Mrs. Maggie Flower in St. Louis Oct. 7 1896. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Lucy Bland: one brother, Strother, and one sister, Mrs. David Wilson, both of Shawneetown, Ill. He was a member of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin and the Union lodge, No. 1, of Free Masons; always bore a prominent part in church and society matters; was a splendid workman, a good businessman and an honored and valued citizen."
