Leslie Clyde Rankin, youngest son of Samuel W. and Sarah Ball Rankin, was born in Belmont, Ohio, October 2, 1879 and came with his parents and two brothers to Van Buren County in November of 1884. He passed away February 12 [1966] at Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.
He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah House Oct. 19, 1904. To this union was born one daughter, Hazel, now Mrs. Max Messer of Farmington.
Besides his wife, Sarah, he leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Hazel, son-in-law, Max, two grandchildren, Marvin Messer at home and Betty Lu Messer Thronsen and one great-grandson, Don of Galena, Alaska.
Those who preceded him in death besides his parents were his two brothers, James and Ed, and one grandson Kenneth Wayne Messer.
Clyde and is wife lived on the home farm for 61 years. He loved his home and friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 14 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Aldreth V. Weigel officiating at the Catcott Funeral Home in Keosauqua. Burial was in the Thompson Cemetery.Clipping and funeral card from the personal collection of C. E. Hales.
While I am not a relative of Mr. Rankin I was born and reared as the closest neighbor of the Rankins in Vernon Twp. and was honored to be a pallbearer at his funeral in 1966.
