Charles Rex Hamlin

Charles Rex Hamlin was born in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, October 30, 1884. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Hamlin. He was educated in the schools of Bonaparte and has spent his short life on the farm north of and at the late home in Bonaparte. For the past twenty-one months he has been suffering with lung trouble. This suffering he bore bravely until a few days ago when he seemed anxious to go. He trusted his Saviour [sic] and believed in the saving power that brings peace to the soul.

He went west a year ago thinking the change of climate would be beneficial to his health, but the physicians thought it best for him to return to Iowa. His death came peacefully about 7:30 A.M. of Wednesday, January 28, 1908, while surrounded by his mother, three sisters, and one brother, being 23 years, 2 months and 29 days old.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Baptist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Alfred Trenerry. Six young gentlemen and old schoolmates of the deceased acted as pall bearers.

There are left to mourn their loss, his mother, Mrs. Hamlin of Bonaparte; three brothers, Frank of Keokuk, Fred of Fairfield, and John of Bonaparte; three sisters, Elida, Laura and Rosa of Bonaparte. His father and one sister preceded him to the life beyond.
